Whilst 10,000 athletes from 207 countries are setting foot in the French capital, sport enthusiasts are preparing their schedule not to miss the best of Sport in Paris.
“The 2024 Olympics will be the 3rd in the City of Light. 630 medals were awarded in the other two. This time around it will be close to a 1000!”

Breaking replaces Karate
Each new instance of the Olympic games usually sees a new sport. It is the case in Paris with the advent of Breaking i.e. break dancing. This replaces karate to the dismay of this sport’s fans.
French athlete Danis Civil aka Danny Dann will be setting the scene on fire at Place de la Concorde, this is the venue for the new sport in Paris. Having qualified through the European championships in Poland last year, the local fans will be cheering for Danis.
Sports one can practice at the Athlete’s village
The all-new athlete village in Saint Denis, also home of the Stade de France, can accommodate thousands of guests. Among the sports that can be practiced there, we find breaking again. There will be some entertaining sessions there for sure. The sports one can practice are as follows:
- Basketball
- Basketball 3×3
- Breaking
- Handball
- Fencing
- Weightlifting
- Wrestling
Medals to include an original piece of the Eiffel tower
It is Chaumet, the house of high jewellery in Paris that designed the medal for the Olympics and Paralympics games. Besides the fine designs one can expect, it will also sport a piece of iron from the Eiffel tower. Rest assured, it has not been dismantled for that purpose though. During the last refurbishment, old metal has been removed and replaced. So this is good recycling. The winners will be going home with a fantastic piece of history as well as the memories.
85 boats for the opening ceremony
Although the decision has been controversial due to security reasons mainly, all the participating nations will be floated away on the Seine river. In total, 85 boats will depart from Austerlitz bridge and athletes will be transported away to the Trocadéro, that is 4 miles across the city of lights. It should be memorable for a lot of the athletes too.
